McLennan Reservation - Tyringham, Mass
The Trustees of Reservations
McLennan Reservation - 594 acres
Hike, snow shoe or xc ski into a rugged and remote tract of forested hills and wetlands at the edge of historic Tyringham Valley.
What makes McLennan Reservation a special place?
Round Mountain and its neighbor, Long Mountain, form the backdrop for the McLennan Reservation, nearly 500 acres of forested hills and wetlands at the southeastern end of Tyringham Valley. In the saddle between these 1,500-foot elevations lies Hale Pond, created when Camp Brook is periodically dammed by beavers.
From the entrance, a 1.5-mile trail follows the graceful rises and dips of this densely forested landscape before reaching the high plateau and Hale Swamp. The trail is moderate in difficulty, with some strenuous sections, but it pays off in striking views of unspoiled wilderness.
The reservation was once part of the Ashintully estate, whose gardens are located at the southern end of the valley and comprise another Trustees reservation-- Ashintully Gardens.
Trails--1.5 miles of moderate hiking, strenuous in places.
When to Visit--Open year-round, daily, sunrise to sunset.
