Saturday & Sunday -  September 21 & 22, 2013  and 
Saturday & Sunday -  October 5 & 6, 2013

Join us in "Celebrating our Historical, Cultural & Natural Resources Heritage" of  The Berkshires of Massachusetts and Litchfield County, Connecticut.

 50+ FREE Heritage Walks (interpretive, educational tours) are scheduled at 50 different locations within the 29 towns of the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area at  various times of these 4 days from 9 am - 4 pm.   Most of the Walking Tours are 1 hour long, and some hikes are 2 hours long.

Join us for 1-hour long educational walks as well as longer hikes, walking tours of towns and historical buildings, nature and birding walks, tours of industrial site ruins, behind-the-scenes tours of our performing arts venues, and canoeing on the Housatonic River.   Historians, naturalists, and environmentalists will help participants explore...

•The Housatonic River

•The history of the villages and towns in the region as expressed in archaeological and industrial sites, architecture, bridges, and monuments,

•Both prominent and unsung geological, ornithological and horticultural resources, and

•Splendid autumn foliage vistas.


Heritage Walks are a partnership of the numerous heritage organizations in the Upper Housatonic River Valley, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, and the National Park Service.

The "Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area" is the local management entity that has partnered with the National Park Service to help educate the public about our Heritage Area (from Kent, CT,  to  Lanesborough, MA -- 29 towns encompassing  the hilly terrain of western Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut). These communities along the Housatonic River have a shared history of pioneering industries,  including iron, paper, and electrical generation, of welcoming writers and artists, and of commitment to the preservation of the scenic landscape and natural resources that make up this special area.
